For more than 20 years, Pact has worked at the center of responsible mining and mineral supply chains, spanning artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM), responsible sourcing, natural resource governance, labor rights, and mineral traceability and transparency. We continue to build a robust practice that ensures communities benefit from expanded mineral investment, including by supporting regulatory reforms, strengthening supply chains through initiatives focused on economic and social development, improving mining standards and labor practices, advancing traceability and transparency, and addressing enabling-environment risks such as weak governance and conflict.
The Senior Director for Responsible Mining will lead the growth of Pact’s Responsible Mining practice. As a senior member of the Programs team, they will design and lead high-quality programs implemented by expert staff, ensuring rigor, measurable impact, and genuine community ownership in line with Pact’s “engaged communities” ethos. As a senior leader responsible for growth, they will identify and shape strategic fundraising and partnership opportunities in close partnership with Pact's Chief Development Officer and Business Development team, treating each program as both a delivery commitment and a platform for the practice's next opportunity. As part of the larger Governance and Sustainable Markets team, the Senior Director will contribute to integrated programming that addresses critical challenges related to governance, peacebuilding, social protection, and market failures. They will be guided by the effort to empower communities at the center of the global race to secure and process critical minerals, remaining aligned with Pact’s commitment to locally led development.
The position reports to the Vice President for Governance and Sustainable Markets and is a member of Pact’s Senior Management Team.

Strong preference will be given to candidates based in the Washington, DC area. Candidates outside the DC area may be considered if they reside in one of the following states where Pact is registered to employ staff: CO, DC, ID, MA, MD, MI, NV, and VA. This is a hybrid role requiring two in-office days per week.
The salary for this position is determined based on a wide variety of factors including but not limited to an individuals skill sets, experience, training, certifications, education, as well as business needs and internal equity. At Pact, employees are typically not hired at the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are made based on the aforementioned circumstances. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $130,000-$180,000
