Pact is seeking to recruit one (1) highly skilled and dependable Driver to support the five-year Zambia Integrated Health Activity (ZIH) Project. This position is based in Kalumbila District, Northwestern Province, and will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of project personnel, equipment, and materials to designated activity sites.
The Driver will be responsible for operating project vehicles in a professional manner, strictly adhering to all traffic laws, organizational policies, and safety protocols. Beyond transportation duties, the role includes providing logistical support to project teams, facilitating the timely delivery of resources, and contributing to the smooth execution of field activities.
This position is essential to maintaining operational efficiency and supporting the overall success of the ZIH Project’s objectives in strengthening health systems and service delivery across the province.
1. Safe Transportation
• Safely operate and maintain assigned vehicles, including trailers, ensuring they are in good working condition.
• Follow all traffic rules and regulations while driving and maintain a clean driving record.
• Conduct a daily vehicle check, including fuel, oil, and water levels, brakes, lights and tires, and report any issues promptly.
2. Transportation of Personnel and Materials
• Provide transportation for project staff, other authorized personnel, and materials to and from project sites in urban and rural areas.
• Ensure the safety and comfort of personnel during transportation.
3. Documentation
• Maintain accurate records of vehicle mileage, fuel consumption, and maintenance activities using vehicle log sheets.
• Keep detailed fuel log sheets to track fuel consumption, receipts and expenses and submit monthly vehicle utilization reports to the fleet supervisor.
• Ensure all required documents, including driver license, vehicle registration, road taxes and insurance are up to date.
4. Vehicle Maintenance
• Submit a hardcopy and online weekly vehicle checklist to the e fleet supervisor and ensure the vehicle is always in a road worthy condition.
• Perform routine maintenance tasks such as cleaning, fueling and ensuring that regular vehicle service is done on assigned vehicle.
5. Logistics Support
• Assist with loading and unloading project materials, equipment and supplies as required.
• Help in arranging and securing materials in the vehicle to prevent damage during transit.
6. Route Planning
• Plan and select the most efficient routes for transportation, taking into consideration road conditions, traffic, and time constraints.
• Maintain awareness of alternative routes in case of unexpected delays or road closures.
7. Safety and Security
• Comply with safety and security policies and procedures, including the use of seat belts and adherence to security protocols in both urban and rural areas.
•Diploma or Equivalent in Transport and logistics
•Mechanical or auto electrical crafts certificate or higher will be an added advantage.
•Valid drivers license with a clean driving record.
•3 – 5 years proven experience as a driver in a NGO preferred.
•Knowledge of vehicle maintenance and basic troubleshooting.
•Should have the ability to drive a multi-passenger vehicle safely and appropriately.
•Ability to read, understand, and adhere to the rules and regulations of transportation.
•Knowledge and ability to operate basic office equipment such as computers, scanners, copiers, and fax machines.
•Basic computer skills required, including familiarity with email and Word processing. Ability to use Excel spreadsheets is also preferred.
•Experience and proven ability to handle and account for funds responsibly.
•Good interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team.
•Presentable and able to interact professionally with partners and clients.
