Department

Private Sector Engagement (PSE) - Pact’s Private Sector Engagement (PSE) team leads and supports the development of partnerships with private sector entities, including corporations and foundations. PSE works with technical leads and country office staff across Pact to develop and shepherd project opportunities and design from positioning to successful project implementation. The PSE team also provides innovative private sector engagement technical assistance to our projects and partners. The PSE team is part of a larger Business Development team and collaborates with business development colleagues focused on work with public sector funders.

Position Overview

Pact’s Private Sector Engagement (PSE) team leads and supports the development of partnerships with private sector entities, including corporations and foundations. PSE works with technical leads and country office staff across Pact to develop and shepherd project opportunities and design from positioning to successful project implementation. The PSE team also provides innovative private sector engagement technical assistance to our projects and partners. The PSE team is part of a larger Business Development team and collaborates with business development colleagues focused on work with public sector funders.     

The Private Sector Engagement Intern is expected to work 20 hours per week and be able to abide by Pact’s hybrid work policy. Mandatory in-office days are Tuesdays and Wednesdays. 

Key Responsibilities

Pact seeks an intern to support the PSE team with research, analytical, reporting, and technical support for private sector partnerships across all of Pact’s country offices and impact areas. They will provide support in identifying, developing, and securing new business opportunities by researching new funding leads, supporting client relationships, and coordinating promotional activities This position will liaise on behalf of the PSE team and business development department across all Pact impact areas (governance, capacity development and innovation, global health, responsible mining, energy and environment, and livelihoods) and country offices to collect project information and achievements, technical capacities and scopes, and relevant documents and data that will support Pact’s new business and partnership efforts. The Intern may also be asked to help develop various external- and internal-facing communications products for partnership development. Inclusive of this role is assisting with efforts to improve and update our knowledge management systems. This will include data collection and collation, review, and administrative support to the PSE team and overall Business Development department on Pact’s project achievements and capacity statements, customer resource management platform and reporting, and ensuring that our data systems are kept updated with the highest quality for assured quality and usability. 

 

  • Assist the PSE team in identifying funding opportunities with private sector entities through funder site monitoring, conducting tailored new funder research, and collecting business intelligence. 
  • Provide support to proposal managers on end-to-end proposal development process, from pre-positioning, proposal development (design, writing, and reviews), to proposal submission. 
  • Support client relationship activities, including writing briefers and updates on project achievements and progress. 
  • Conduct tailored research for competitive analyses and capture planning that identifies Pact’s value proposition for specific opportunities. 
  • Maintain relationship management and organizational databases (Salesforce, SharePoint, and intranet)  
  • Assist in identifying and backfilling data quality gaps in Pact’s Customer Relationship Management (CRM) database and other knowledge management platforms such as outreach trackers, in collaboration with the PSE team and Business Development Department.  
  • Support and collaborate with appropriate staff to maintain knowledge management and databases, including CRM, PSE team and Business Development department job aids and processes, and other products as needed.  
  • Work with the PSE team on updating and maintaining intranet site and resources. 
  • Work with technical experts across Pact’s impact areas (governance, capacity development and innovation, global health, responsible mining, energy and environment, and livelihoods) to support the development of capacity statements, collation of project achievements and approaches, and curate pitch pack content. 
  • Conduct due diligence on new partners and funders. 
  • Support coordination of internal and external events, meetings, and conferences. 

 

Basic Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and 2+ years relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience or Master's degree. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills 
  • Critical thinker with a can-do approach to problem solving 
  • Excellent attention to detail 
  • Ability to work on multiple initiatives at the same time and manage priorities 
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint) 
  • High levels of research and analytical literacy 
  • Basic understanding of international development nonprofit operations 
  • Ability to work in a diverse business culture 
  • The Intern is expected to work approximately 20 hours per week, for at least 6 months.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s student 
  • Salesforce or other Customer Relationship Management (CRM) experience 
  • Experience writing proposal sections, capacity statements, and developing pitch decks 
  • Experience in grant writing, business development, partnership development, or other related new business development functions 
  • Ability to commit for at least 6 months 
  • Proficient in a second language, preferably one from a Pact-operating country (i.e. Swahili, Spanish, French, etc.)
